I was wondering on average how much all of you with LED lights pay for your power bill or have an idea the average cost to run two a month? I'm gonna try to talk the hubby into them when we get our taxes.... My power bill was 450! I asked how much it was on average before the fish tank and it was around 180! FFS, I need to just buy them already!!!

With the apex controller you can monitor the power usage, with T5s I was peaking around 8-10 amps (this also included other equipment). When I switched to leads I am peaking in the 5-7 range and that is still with 2 T5 bulbs that run for 3 hours a a day and with the heaters running a little more often because of the colder house temps. I would say as far as consumption the LEDs made a difference and in turn would drop the power bill to a point that it was noticeable (for me at least).

Not to mention the money you will save in bulb changes. To swap out all your bulbs you are already half way there to a really nice LED fixture.

I run 2 led's and my lights have gone from about 145$ with t5's to 120$ with led's and I'm pretty sure the difference between led's and metal halide is significantly larger then that
I was running 4 t5's before.

Get in on the group buy, get two, it's $220 less you will pay on your next power bill.

My old 150 gallon tank was using well over 1600 watts per kilowatt hour, 1182 watts of that was the light alone. I also has two large air conditioners and everything else that we use and our power bills never got over $250. With my current tank and still running two 10,000btu ac units in the summer, and an electric water heater our bill averages around $160 a month. That's with two 250 watt metal halides over the tank. Can't wait to see what it drops to with LEDs over my tank. I can't believe your paying $450 a month just for electricity! That's insane.

$450? are you using electric space heaters to heat up the house? was around $8.45 a month running my 250watt halide for 8 hours a day haven't plugged my LED's into the meter yet to see but im guessing they're costing me half that. my heater costs me the most between $20-$30 a month and the skimmer and return pump cost me another $10

$450 is crazy!! I ran your light on a 120g tank, the whole tank ran about $45-$50 a month in power. even when I had 5-6 tanks going my power never ran above $220 and thats my whole house

You can check out a Killawatt energy detector at your library for free. It shows how many watts per hour something plugged into it uses. You can put it between the power strip and wall to get everything then turn on and off components. I found my nano was like $15mo and my 30 was closer to 18-20. I didn't redo it since LEDs but was running PC lights

Space heaters are known for being power hogs.
