so about a month ago a got a small clam from a lfs and it has been very active in my frag tank until this morning of all day he has gone missing from his shell the only fish in the tank is a candy hogfish and I think there is a blue leg hermit crab or two. has any one else had a problem with this

They can't leave their shell and survive, most likely eaten overnight. I'm not familiar with the exact hogfish you have, but I know in general a hogfish LOVES to eat crustaceans and other inverts.
It could of also died, and been cleaned up by the clean up crew by morning.

I didn't read the part about it missing from its shell. Man it has been a long Christmas. I know some clams bury themselves when threatened. But if it is entirely gone from its shell it is toast.

like I said it was active and doing well up till last night and I had never seen the hogfish picking at it oh well I guess I will have to go with a large one next time

Yup, clams can't live outside of its shell, it either became a snack or died and the CUC took care of him. Sorry, that's definitely a bummer
