I have a question, I just got a jebao wavemaker for my 20high reef but when I put have it on the correct setting it makes the iron stand rock back and forth. Do you think this will weaken it and cause it to break? I very worried about water damage as I live on the 3rd floor. Any input?? thanks

If it's able to make the stand rock back and fourth then there's no doubt it will weaken the structural integrity of the stand.

I guess it depends on how much the stand is moving. Any aquarium stand moving at all would make me worry. You'd be better off getting a solid wood stand or cabinet to put your tank on or even building a stand yourself. You want a stand to be solid, movement in a stand isn't a good thing.

if I had 500 pounds rocking back and forth I would be very worried!! if you need a stand I have one I made I would let go for $25 it needs a door... $40 if you want the 30xh tank with it

I"d love to take that stand but I don't want to have to drain and move the tank =( I get anxiety just thinking about moving the tank lol. There is a setting that works alright it just doesn't have the "perfect" wave that I'd like.

you could also get a piece of plywood and some metal screws. cover the stand and you shouldnt have a problem with it moving ever again

Do you think this will weaken it and cause it to break? I very worried about water damage as I live on the 3rd floor. Any input?? thanks You definitely do not want to have a tank of any size on a stand rocking back and forth. What is happening here is that you are creating a force on particular point of the stand that in an addition to the force that that the tank itself and all its components are already creating on the stand. These stands are designed to maintain a static load not a dynamic load which the rocking is creating. Now because this keeps happening you are causing a cyclic stress on the stand. This cyclic stress can result in a material failure due to fatigue. Fatigue will cause small cracks in the material and if this loading and unloading continues to happen and the material of the stand will give out. This might not be anything to worry about now, but down the road it definitely is a concern for unwanted issues.

I would suggest first seeing if you can shim up the tank so that it is level. You can get wood shims from a local hardware store. If you can get it level the tank should not rock without having to add the extra plywood.

with metal stands I would use 2x4" on the bottom so it didnt sit just on the metal posts then cover with plywood and corner molding for the edges strongest stand you will ever have
