So I was at harbour freight and tool in Bangor the other day and found a huge selection of pumps from little 250 up to your big boy basement pumps might be worth checking out as backups or super sumpers

Everything at HF is cheapest of the cheap from China a and breaks quickly. I wouldn't trust a pump from them....my pipe cutter broke after only 6 pieces of PVC.

Yea waste of money. The problem with most any cheap utility pumps from any hardware stores is they are generally made with cheap quality materials that are not saltwater safe for aquarium use. They can work just fine for pond or basement sump use.

I would save your money for a good saltwater safe pump. I use a mag 18 for my water change. It's not worth risking your entire tank to a cheap pump that can rust and release all sorts or heavy metals and bad stuff into your tank. I've seen it happen at aquacorals and in my clients tank that I take care of. You always get what you pay for.

...and some pumps are oil-filled for cooling. Even a minor leak could be catastrophic.

I was just stating the fact cheap pumps and no you shouldn't buy anything to place in your tank that is not sw safe or could cause damage to it down the road but with a little research you might find that its not worth the extra $$ for the name brand thats made almost identical that you might only use once or twice a year and as for Harbor Freight I owne several tools of there's that I use all the time and have for years if you look there's a warranty on most things in the store and they stand by it
