Does anyone know a good reliable return pump that I don't have to cut my right arm off to purchase? I need something in the 1700 gph range. I have a 740 gph in my sump now so I could just add another smaller pump? 1000 gph? I've seen some cheaper ones on eBay 710 gph for 25$ free s/h but messaged them and at 3 foot return line the pump will only push 80 gph!!!!I didn't even know that was possible! Others say there not made for salt. Idk maybe there isn't any that don't cost 200$

The pondmaster magdrive 9.5 pumps 950 gph @ 4 feet of head. I have the 5 and has been reliable so far. The 9.5 is like $85 on amazon.

Same here, I've had many larger mag drives seize up because the impellers shattered and started rusting. Mag drive pumps are just way to inefficient and costly to bother buying with all the better made, more affordable and efficient pumps on the market.

Well that's what I want to know! Lol what are the other quality brand cheap return pumps? Anyone know of or ever use any of the ones on eBay? There at least 3 or 4 pumps over 1000 gph that are under 50$?

Almost all pumps are mag drive now anyways right? Also whole were one the subject of return pumps. What are people aiming for on turn over rate through the sump?

Unless there's some new electric motor technology then Yes, technically all water pumps on the aquarium market are electric magnetic drive aka mag drive. I was talking about the pond master pumps branded as "mag drive". They create a lot of excess heat, use double the wattage of comparable pumps, and are known to have impeller issues. I'm a fan of the coralvue water blaster pumps but then agin it doesn't fit into a cheap budget. I've heard a lot of good about eheim pumps, sedra and since pumps though.

The pump I have now is awesome!I love it just undersized for my tank I think?740 gph and it was only like 40$ hydor in/out of water controllable flow. Was thinking about doubling them up and using out of water? Would 1480 gph be good enough turn over?

when I say "mag drive" I mean danner mag drive pumps
as far as turn over goes, what is your overflow box rated for? and are you talking 1480gph at 3'-4' or is that the pump flow at 0' ?
