Great design foggman. DIY is what this hobby was built on. I like the idea of putting the lid back on to reduce any splash or noise from the drain line. My only suggestion is to keep watch on the floss and change it out often so as not to get clogged. If it operates anything like a sock then when it starts to overflow it will just go through the path of least resistance, which would be up through the top. Excellent work!

Yes I plan on weekly change and one bag of floss has enough for about 6 changes

for floss go to walmart and buy pillow stuffing. same thing just cheaper and you can get finer or courser floss if you want....

its all poly fiber...... I went threw tons of it when I had fw tanks. I also used to use it with a skilter hob filter/skimmer to keep the micro-bubbles to a minimum
