I have had a BTA for a couple weeks now, and I am concerned about the night "shrinkage" (insert Seinfeld joke here). For a couple days now, with no major change in water chemistry, the nem went from a large and happy beast, to a tiny shrunken specimen. Is this normal from time to time? What should I watch for?? It's open during the day? At night they always shrink, but if it's like that during the day for more than a couple days then I'd be concerned
Sent from my SCH-I535 using proboards

others would know better then me but also I've been told that if a anemone Is dying it will start looking like it's melting or falling apart? I've also noticed that sometimes my anemones will shrink up sometimes when there going to poop! And ditto to they shrink up every night it's normal just sleeping I presume

All anemones have the ability to completely deflate and change shape quite rapidly. It's completely normal. All three of my rose btas close up over night. Most anemones can even close all the way up tight till they look like a rubbery blob. What you want to watch out for is if the anemone starts loosing color or starts deteriorating aka melting. You'll know if your anemone is dying because it will start with a gaping mouth and from there parts will start turning white when it starts falling apart from rotting. This is what everyone calls melting. Yours looks fine though so I wouldn't worry.

I had a thread on here quite a while back about my bta that wouldnt settle. Every time id try to make him put hit foot down he'd let go and float across the tank..among other corals and a giant LTA...I was stressed he was gonna kill my coral or get eaten by the LTA or sucked up in a power head or an intake and then possibly poisin the tank ect ect... They def stress their owners! Lol
