I cannot get my tank to stabilize for nothing. I've been doing 2-4gln water changes daily for over a week and dosing amquel daily. Everything is dying. I finally got nitrates bask to zero but ammonia was still present when I tested it 2 days ago. Now I'm out of test supplies but with the daily loss of coral still I'm betting it's still present. I'm frustrated and lost over $100 in coral that was recently just bought, not to mention some of my favorites that I have had for a while and survived the tank move. My goblins are gone, acans are gone, all of my soft coral is gone, all that's left are zoa and mushrooms pretty much and most are very po'd. Some are starting to open back up but not all. My fish are fine. How can I get this under control asap? 28 cube, I feed maybe once per week mysis, everything is 0 except ammonia and ph is a bit low at 7.8 I don't dose other than calcium occasionally. I use reef crystals (tho at the moment is just regular io salt)

Jess, if you have some buckets and can make a run from South Portland home to do a water change, I will drain however many gallons you want from my tank for to do another water change. It would all be cycled water and loaded with bacteria that should help you stabilize.

seachem's prime? I know most people probably don't use it for salt water but you can and it neutralizes ammonia and nitrites

Jess, sure tomorrow works for me just shoot me a PM as to a time and we can set it up. Seachem's does work just like Amquel, but those are temporary fixes if you are still waiting on your bacteria culture to catch up with your tank. Some already cycled water should do wonders to help you along. I also have an older Ammonia test kit I will bring along that you can have.

That would be awesome. As it stands I'm just getting out of the hobby again for a while. So whatever is still alive is available for sale. I'll get pics in a bit, they won't be very good tho as the glass sucks

No I haven't actually tested it, and it may be. I've been staying at a campground, it's well water but who knows. I'll buy it from now on

Could be an issue with the well water you are using. Glad you can get some "used" tank water. Can anyone spare some substrate too? Do you have a NITRITE test kit? When you say you have nitrate back to zero, what was it before?

Seachem prime will be your best friend. I would give it to you if you were closer. Double or triple the dose to make ammonia non lethal

I've been using amquel, same thing really. My nitrates went up to 20ppm, I think it was due to a mini cycle from adding a couple pieces of rock that was taken from my other tank.

I'm just running a ten gln bare bottom right now cause I have to move it in October. I'll let the cube stabilize, even tho I'm not sure I'm going to keep it up. But there's to much rock for the ten gln

Nitrates at 20ppm shouldnt really be that big of an issue for the soft corals or even lps for that matter, my monti cap in my old setup used to grow ridiculous at that level. I am sure it will all level out, if you need a place to store your rock just keep it in a bunch of 5 gallon buckets with a powerhead. Its how I cure my rock when I get it anyways. If I were in the Portland area anytime soon I would buy it off you
