Does anyone in here have a cold water tank? I will probably be diving in the morning if anyone is looking for something, I can try to find it. Let me know.

I have cold water snails and a couple crabs, they live just fine in my warm water tank. Like to find some reef safe hermits or different types of snails. If they are to deep tho probably less survival rate in a tropical tank.

Hermits are everywhere, snails too...no idea what would be reef safe, I didn't think they would survive in a warm tank, that's very interesting.

If they are acclimated slowly most do fine. Some do die, but up until about 6mths ago I had snails from the bar harbor that lasted 2yrs. Even the little barnicle the was growing on his shell lived. And the other had some type of tuft of algae growing on its shell. Pretty cool. Would love a few hermits if you spot any. The kids was trying to catch shrimp to bring home but couldn't get any. I kept a small urchin once for a while to. Sent from my SCH-I535 using proboards

Are you going to the frag swap tomorrow? I'll try to grab some hermits.

Ok, I wouldn't be able to get them in your direction any time soon, so I let them go...I kept 3 for myself and one snail.

It's the downfall of cold water, not sure what's safe or not. The crabs haven't bothered anything, wish they would eat algae tho lol

I will keep an eye on them, but the ones I took were very tiny (shells are pea size) The periwinkle snail I took went right to work right next to the astreas, and I also took a colony of orange sheath tunicates that can be found in warmer waters. It adds some nice color, I hope it survives. My emerald crab is cleaning up the various algae that came home with it. Attachments:

Where did you go? I used to be able to just walk the beach and collect sand dollars, hermits, snails, and star fish. Now there's nothing. Maybe just looking in the wrong place now lol

I went to the little beach next to the Lobster Shack in Cape Elizabeth...but I didn't start seeing anything until I was about 10 feet deep, and the orange tunicate colony came from about 30' deep. You probably would have better luck at low tide.

I think diving is AWESOME...but I'm claustrophobic, which is the biggest reason I have a tank...I LOVE the ocean but I think having a tank is as close as I think I'll get to seeing into the ocean.
