I was wondering what the opinions were around here regarding covering the aquarium or not. I want to get some fish that are known as jumpers, in particular a firefish. I added a glass cover, but it seems to be reflecting a lot of light onto the ceiling. The tank itself looks normal, but I know there is light lost in the spectrum. I also have a deep tank, 30", so I am wondering if fish would be less likely to jump. Thanks!

Forgot to mention I have LPS, softies, and I plan on SPS, and photosynthetic gorgonians. My lights are a pair of 120w maxspect razor LED systems.

With a screen top, how would I accommodate my overflow tubes/boxes and my return plumbing?

I do open top without screen and so doesn't Lance in Bangor (If I remember correctly he keeps firefish as well.) With your tank being so high the risk is highly reduced. I have never had a problem with them jumping out once established. But if you were to do the screen rig up a simple metal framework with bends in the areas around the overflow box. Luckily fire fish are pretty cheap too

I lost a gobie and a blenny to unauthorized airborne operations. I need a screen top. Probably buy the clear screen from BRS and get the aluminum framework materials at Home Depot or Lowes.

All my jumpers have jumped....my nano cube has a bow front I made a cover for it with egg crate this allowed me to cut spaces for any equipment no jumpers since, it reflects a bit of light but the coral is still looking great and growing well after 4 months.

I keep open top tanks and I have had lots of fish jump! clown, helfrichi firefish, 3-4 wrasses..... top is a good idea to keep any fish in not just known jumpers, once I put the canopy on the tank I wont have to worry and can get a leopard wrasse trio

Thanks for all the help, I have decided to buy a roll of the netting from bulk reef supply, an I will buy the rest local...84" of framing is under $4. I didn't realize this was available, I wish I had known before I bought the glass cover.

Penny-wise, pound foolish and all...
