anyone use or have an opinion on Fiji mud refugium starter? does it work? what are the known benefits?( not just the listed ones)

I've never used it, I have yet to see a positive review about it, most people complain that it's not live by the time they use it, it also clouds up the water pretty bad.

I have yet to see consistent positive reviews about it also. And it is, really, really expensive for something I could go find at the lake

I just used a 8"+ soft sand bed and a couple flat rock for things to hide under and it seems to work good

the one I got wasn't expensive at all actually very cheap that's why I grabbed it even though I didn't know if I'd use it. gotta love clearance at pet co! sometimes! Lol

Did you get the walt smith fiji mud? I think thats what petco carries. Yeah that'd the good stuff right there. Mud is NOT snake oil. Its not going to make any changes that you will see by using your test kits. But all sorts of microfauna prefer it. When you mix sand into the top layer to keep it down and prevent clouding. Don't use too much. A 50/50 composition of mud and caribsea special grade in the top 1/4" is the most you should do.
