I am new at this, recently lost many fish to ick, or a similar parasite. Now I am going 6 weeks fish free, holding fish in separate tank treated with copper. I also added to the main tank 4 Florida cucumbers thinking they would benefit my deep sand bed. Now I am hearing they can kill off the fish. Does anyone with experience with them have advice?

They are fine just don't let them get into your sump. I put a few of mine in my sump while I didn't have sand in my tank and one got sucked up into my main pump. It chopped it up into little bits and was apparently enough to kill off about six of my fish over night. This is just a rare instance. They don't release toxins the same way as many of the filter feeding sea cucumbers like sea apples. I still have one Caribbean sand sifting cucumber and I plan to get more.
