So I have a question for you all, does anyone else have trouble growing zoos in their tanks, I know others on other forums have problems. I don't have trouble growing anything else but my zoos either grow really slow or not at all? Does anyone know the reason? Would be curious if it would be because of placement or chemistry or a combo of both.

I have prob 10 kinds of zoos and some of them have done GREAT and blown up, and then some have done NOTHING since I put them in my tank. I have some pink zoas with green rims I got from Scoob, they're gorgeous but they wont do anything, also, my whammin watermelons and my green back packers havent done much, but my pink Palys BLEW up...like weeds....my Armor of Gods grow fast, my (fire and ice?) are growing fast, my other two kinds of pink zoos are growing great. I think it all depends on the type and how they grow in your specific tank. Jess also has the whammin watermelons and they've def grown in her tank but still nothing in mine. I'm no expert, but I figured I'd give my thoughts

It really depends on the location that the zoas are from and where you put them in your tank, along with how clean your water is. Since i keep sps and have stronger lighting, i find alot of my zoas grow faster in the shaded parts often tank, and the same zoas will grow faster in my LPS tank since the water isn't as clean.

Most of my zoanthids seem to grow better with slightly dirty water and high light.

Play with light and flow, some zoas like a lot of light, some not so much. Same with flow, some love flow and some don't. I have also read about people dosing Vitamin C for zoas, and I have also heard zoas like high Mg.
I consider myself a zoa collector and have a bunch of different types, but I have had certain ones I have trouble with, for example I just lost my frag of red hornets. Sometimes things just don't make it for some reason and I find that goes for corals and fish.

I've found they like a bit dirty of water, my oxides almost doubled when my tank recently went thru a mini cycle. I have some lunar eclipse that hate me tho, are bleached and don't want to open. I don't keep pristine water and find most my zoa grow steadily.

I run chemipure elite to reduce phosphates with purigen, I usually do 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, I get better growth from my softies especially zoas without carbon, my SPS grow faster when I'm running the carbon, so I would assume its partly related to phosphates, I have also had some zoas that grow crazy fast and others that take forever.

My computer was being really slow and I must have hit the reply button a few too many times...wonder if chemipure will give me some cash for the shameless plugging :oD

I have semi dirty water so I would think they would. Lost a small 3 head colony, just slowly withered away and have another colony that just sits, opens and closes. No growth. I tried moving them around and seeing but maybe they just don't like me. I have palys that go crazy, but green zoos forget about it. I am going to be moving everything into my new 75 gallon soon so I will have more room to spare, and will be updating to reefbreeders lighting. Should be interesting to see how much a sump can make a difference in a system. I can thank Lance for going open top design. Man is his tank the bees knees compared to mine!

Interesting on the vitamin c though, never heard of that, just dump in some orange juice and were good or do we go old school and make them take pills?

Don't do orange juice you don't want the sugar in your tank it will mess up your bacteria population there is sugar/vodka dosing but needs to be done exactly, there are forms you can add to your tank I would google this as I've only read about it, it's more to cover diet deficiencies in fish as I recall.

If I recall there's a whole thread on reef2reef about dosing vitamin c specifically for zoas, I haven't done it personally.
