WOW!!!! I love the birdsnest and acopora! Gorgeous! It'll be a while before I try either of those though, I need to get my nitrates in control and learn a bit more. Sucks being new to all of this, it limits me

Thank you. I really like the acropora too. It was originally collected from a guy in Aussie in his mid 60's. He free-dived to get it! He has a small section of reef that he harvests full of exceptional stuff. This was also collected by him...

Wow that's really cool! So she is diving on the great barrier reef?
I saw a neat thread a few years ago on a reef forum from a guy living in Aussie that drives about an hour from his house to this spot on the coast. At low tide he is able to walk out about a 1/2 mile in places and he collects all sorts of stuff from tidal pools. Things like clown fish, anemones, lobophylia, zoanthids etc. He had a bunch of pictures. Everyone was following his thread lol!

Yep, she'll be diving in the great barrier reef...I'm SO jealous for two reasons...1 because I'm not there to do it with her, but 2 because I'm claustrophobic and the thought of being under water scares the bejesus out of me. This is WHY I have a tank. I can see all the beauty without being IN it lol.
I might have her ship me some stuff if she finds anything, but then again she would have to know enough to know what could and couldnt go in my tank. I would LOOOVE to be there and see it all for myself and collect things but I really doubt that will ever happen! lol
I'm gonna have to tell her to keep her eyes out and text me pics or something! I'll let you guys know if it actually happens. I honestly dont know if anything would even survive the shipping!

The only thing I would say is make sure it's allowed. I would be VERY surprised if she legally could collect/ ship anything to you. Sounds really really cool though

she would need a cites permit to ship to you but it might be worth it depending n the price of the permit

In the original Survivor Richard Hatch was faced with a huge fine for collecting pieces of coral and giving them to other castaways... definitely need to know the legal ramifications. I don't know as if I'd have a tank if I lived so close to a real reef I think it'd be much more enjoyable to dive right in.

Agreed! That would be so cool.
I should have a few new pieces uploaded to site later today. (Not purchased from Richard Hatch) lol

I am not sure how many people have been to Cultivated Reef or ordered from there, but I am just gonna say, if you are looking for coral (SPS, LPS, or softies) and you want something different, this is the place to go!!! I know its a bit far away in Orono, however if you are in the Bangor area, it is definitely somewhere you want to check out! Just call to make sure they are available!
