Finding Nemo had a huge impact on our hobby. People flocked to salt tanks by the masses wanting little Nanos with clowns. The good is the explosion of captive bred clownfish. Though many jumped into the hobby without fully researching and on poor advice from some pet stores just wanting to cash in. The new movie is supposed to raise money for conservation/education efforts. I feel it will undoubtably have some effect on the hobby whether it be a renewed interest in keeping reefs or possibly continuing to preach conservation without sharing any information about aquaculture. What does every else think about this coming out next summer?

I think the publicity is good and the animation will be great but alot of people will go out and buy a clownfish and tang after and through them in a 10g which aint cool.

Do you really mean to say that I can't keep a grouper in my 2 gallon hex fish bowl? I sprinkle some table salt in every now and then.

I think they have misrepresented the breeding ability of hippo tangs in captivity. Not sure how negative of an impact that will have in the hobby, but any false information is bad.

I know when I first started with marine tanks I made alot of mistakes. I just wish people would do a little more research before they jumped into it.

Although I think it's gonna be a great movie and my kids will love it. I think it'll do more bad then good for the hobby as a whole given the scrutiny we're facing. Not to say we won't gain any good hobbyist out of it because we will. But the 10g Nanos will far out weigh them. On a side note I think certain fish should be more closely monitored and regulated. Like the blue hippo tang.

i think they should make every thing over 75 gal require a 60%discount so better tanks and equipment can be had .this would increase the quality of live for our marine inhabitants yes? just a thought.

at least the market gets flooded with tons of awesome used equipment after people realize a salt tank isn't exactly as simple as a betta setup ha ha

Sorry to throw the topic out of whack.
Where there's a will there's a way. I've been in the hobby 3 years. I'm cheap. I want the best deals or the best bang for my buck. I run cheap Chinese lights. I build my own stands. I got my 125 new for coral trade ins. I'm not the only one who has figured out how to sell. I've made this hobby pay for itself. I'm up to 2 radions, 2 tanks, 4 wwc og bounces, about to buy an apex, blah blah list goes on. My hobby cost me nothing and I'm gaining high end corals and equipment at no cost out of my bread money. Just cost time, patience and the love of the hobby. Everyone can do the same thing. Ask Jason!

I just added a 80g frag tank to the collection and I'm thinking I may need another Gen 3 pro to put over it? there's nothing better then a self sustainable hobby you love and enjoy. You are right as well though Ron, not everyone can do it as it does require time and sometimes more time then you think just talking to people. I have hundreds of pages of pm's after selling someone a pack. They just keep asking questions and I like to help. It can also get overwhelming sometimes as well. But what fun would there be if it wasn't a challenge
