Wow man that's a battle! Really glad you pulled through it and come or the other side victorious! Do you have any idea what originally caused the outbreak? Or any ideas on what you think fuels dinos? I know I've read in the past that a lack of No3 could spur an outbreak of dinos. Especially when they get significantly lower then Po4. What do you think? And is that why you stopped doing WC's?

Tough to tell. Doesn't seem like anyone has answered that question. Everything I've read has been theories. I stopped water changes because the bottle of Dino X told me to and most of what I read people experienced better results. The low No3 makes sense but I honestly don't know. From what I understand there are also hundreds if not thousands of different species and depending on the strand you want to approach a cure differently. Some are trying to identify exactly what they have with microscopes and then attacking it based on what they find...kinda like the new cancer treatments. It's all way over my head. All I can tell you is that I almost threw in the towel on this one. Man, I just want 6-8 months problems free with this tank!!

In my experience the only way to go any amount of time with no problems is to not change anything. Like you said there's so many theories about any pest or problems in this hobby, so it makes them that much harder to fight. Lots of people think I'm crazy when I say new plastics in a reef tank always cause a cyano outbreak in my tank. I've seen this happen many times considering how many times I've changed pumps/wavemakers, frag racks and skimmer stands. Everytime I've had a cyano outbreak, big or small. Maybe not everyone does because they're running carbon more then I am, Idk? but I just battle it for a few weeks and be as aggressive as possible and it goes away. Sometimes I think I'd miss all the problems if they went away! Lol then again I don't think I'd miss dinos if I ever had to do that battle.
