To the sellers credit, I've seen a lot of sweet corals on their website. What gets me is how like many others, every single, coral is listed as an ultra or rare coral. Prime example here is a recent Facebook posting for a common brown toadstool. It's listed as an ultra toadstool lol! It just gets me.

Agreed! I generally completely ignore ultra as a descriptor. Just a marketing ploy. When you take something that genuinely hard to find like Red mini maxi anemone you don't need a fancy description. If someone is looking for it, they know it's going to cost them. I see that especially in the Rock Flower market where they've driven the price up to the same as high end BTA's
Retailers aren't immune to being victims of this. I was down at Easy a couple of months ago and they'd just gotten in an order of "ultra" rock flowers but had been shipped just some normal green and white ones. Now maybe they could get a refund from their distributor for the error, but that's hard for you or I to do with an ebay or craigslist seller.

That and a lot of places(unlike liveaquaria) don't list the lighting that the photo was taken under. Sometime you can tell from the background stuff that they are pushing hard into the UV spectrum to get a unique looking pic.

That's the worst part imo, it's become the norm instead of just something people on ebay do... Go look at Marinedepot live there corals look like they're spray painted with florescent paint.then they black out the backround. But the new age reefers like and want that. I read an article saying that is nearly impossible to get vendors to put white lights on at trade shows, mostly because Reg corals become ULTRA under all actinics.

With new lighting comes thousands of "new color morphs". All for the low price of $400 per polyp and $800 per 1 inch frag lol

Why not just allow the size and price of the colonies sell them selves ? Sent from my SM-N910R4 using proboards

That's how I see it. If priced appropriately corals will sell themselves. No need to spit shine it, throw a black light over it and call it some moon glow ultra out of this world colony lol.

No way. Even I know that if it's Flaming you should run in the other direction.
