every once in a wile I find one or two in one of my small tanks. this is also the tank I have a hard time keeping zoas in, if someone want to see one of these little stars eating healthy coral I can give a couple to anyone for your own experiments... (maybe a small tank to watch them in?)

Lance you could be correct but at the time I fad no losses or sicknesses in the tank. My water parameters were spot on. I never seen them going after any corals or inverts. I have seen them on healthy corals but the only thing I had seen was retracted polyps that came back when the starfish moved. I did border on keeping a dirty tank at that time growing softies, LPS, and getting my Nems to split. One thing I did notice from the start to finish was if I cleaned the purple coralline algae on the glass and left an un scraped area the stars would be all over it.

I am re experimenting with Zoas this month, I picked up a few frags a couple of weeks ago ( fingers crossed ).

I have them in my tank, they come in waves. A while ago I had a ton, was pulling out 20-30 each evening. Then they disappeared for a while, and now they seem to be making a comeback.
I have been putting them in my sump to help with detrius, I read they are good at that.
If anyone needs any, let me know..........I'm going to be pulling them again to control them.

They do seem to come in waves. Seems like for months I don't see many around and then pow they are all over the glass and everything. I once thought that tossing them in the sump would be a good idea. Then I read about cutting them up to make more stars. Which I did not want. Than I noticed the stars were not in the numbers I assumed they would be in the sump. I think they got into the return pump, chopped themselves up and multiplied back into my tank. Sounds like a bunch of sci-fi but... I have no other explanation. Sent from my DROID RAZR HD using proboards

Well I can now say that I have seen these little starfish kill my first frag in my tank. My Superman Monti is the victim, and I caught 4 of the smallest little starfish in the act of killing it. I picked them off, and I hope the frag can make a comeback but only time will tell.
I'm debating getting a Harlequin shrimp, but I'm nervous with my Flame hawkfish in the tank. Not sure how my cleaner shrimp will react either.

If anyone has a hungry Harlequin Shrimp, let me know and I'll take him off your hands.

Mine has almost eliminated the stars in my tank and my zoas are finally growing well. That's enough evidence for me.

I've picked about 6-7 of them off that Superman monti frag in the past 3 days, they just keep going back to that one frag and are putting a hurting on it. If I can keep them off of it, I think it will make a come back.....but those little starfish are insatiable.

Do they actively hunt and kill corals, or are they more opportunistic and feed on dead/dying corals? I had them in my tank and they never seemed to bother anything.

My frag was doing great, it was encrusting on the plug and looking fine. Then I noticed the original frag was turning white and there was 2 or 3 small starfish on it, I removed them put the frag back, and the next day there were 2 more on there.
