when I got it they said they fed on sundays but it might not eat for a week or so until it settled in. I got it on a saturday the next day put it in front of a mouse there wasnt even a hesitation...
would it be better to feed larger meals less often or smaller meals more often? like I said I dont want a fat lazy snake. I am thinking smaller meals digest faster so I dont have to wait 2 days to handle him after he eats. I handle him allot to keep him active. if it is in its tank it just buries itself and sleeps.

How big is it now? My baby snakes I fed them twice a week. As they got older once a week. Once you have had him a while you will be able to tell when he's hungry. Stay with frozen. My reticulated was a rescue. Actually I just took her. My exes friends had her. Showed her to me during a feeding, 11 ft snake eats rabbits. They fed them to her live. She had so many scars and wounds from those feet lashing the hell out her. And a nasty respiratory infection. So told them I either took her or called animal control and report them. That snake is illegal in Maine without a permit. Anyway, I was raising pit bulls at the time to. Your snake will get used to the smell of your other animals. I've had several snakes and none ever bothered my dogs. My python we let out to roam the house everyday and only one struck at one of my dogs, but it kept barking at her lol. Keep a large container of water at all times in its cage. Be careful of the types of substrate you use also. I volunteered with the Maine herp society many years ago. Have had many reptiles, but mostly large ones. I rescued iguanas for a couple years and raised water dragons for a while. But I got out of it after having my 4th kid. Not enough time for reptiles 12+ dogs and 4 kids lol.

this snake is probably just under 2' but the size of my finger. im not worried about the snake hurting the cats its the other way around. my coon cat is 20+ pounds and broken. when he was a kitten he fell threw the ceiling and broke the part of his leg that connects his leg to his hip... being broken he dosnt put up with much! my 100# block head lab is even scared of him. 4 kids are enough animals by them selves.....

2 animals is all for me. When I had one (shyann) I wanted another. But once my second (serenity) came ,I swore I'd never have another child. Having more then one of different ages just adds a hole new dimension to it

i would only feed every other week gives them a chance to digest good. snakes can go up to a year without eating so ur not going to starve it. and as ryan says sometimes they refuse to eat. sometimes the dont want to switch from mice to rats. ive had times i could find no mice and pet stores would offer hamsters and such and they woulnt touch them. just didnt like the smell of them or somthing. also had snakes didn't care what it was they would eat it. they also like small hiding places to curl up in. its us who likes to see them in a big fancy cage. theyed be just as happy in a small tote under the bed as long as it was warm

and never meant they would bother ur other animals ur cat would prolly kill the snake in an instant just that when u handle a snake be aware of other animals smell on ur hands when u go to pick up the snake. better to wash hands first and after cuz chance salmonella on all reptiles
