we had a lot of programing issues. the lights would not come on or they would not stay on for how long they where programed for. we are a serves company and that was a big issue when it came to our clients tanks. we currently use reef breeders over our customers tanks as well as currents. my hope is that this new generation of radions will have better computer programing then the gen1 and gen 2.

I understand now. The original thick client management software was garbage and the first gen web software wasn't much better. However, Ecotech has completely redone the UI for managing lights. The web app is much more user friendly and stable. I have not had an issue for the last year. Their Reeflink module lets you connect and manage the light remotely, from a web browser or iOS app.

+1^ I got my lights like 2 weeks ago and set up was a breeze! I'm serious these things are amazing. I'm seeing colors I never thought was possible. And already have new pic documented growth in just 2 weeks. Like I said if you'd like to see the gen 3 pro's over a sps dominant tank your more then welcome to come take a look see;D

Only thing I don't like about the Radions so far if I'm going to be nit picky is the lighting storms turn the whole tank 10k ish and I wish it would keep the tanks pre set colors and still do the lightning.

Sps love lots of flow way more flow then Lps imo. I'd recommend 2 mp40's, 2 wp40's or 2 Rw20's with adjustable power supply. This can also be helpful. ecotechmarine.com/calculator/

Sorry I wasn't specific. Not two of each but rather pick a pair that you like/prefer and go with those.

Depending on your time schedule I may be able to give you a hands on review of pac sun lighting as my fixture should be in soon. You can also come to Biddeford and I would be glad to give you a demo as well once it is set up. Getting opinions here on the forum is definitely a good idea; however, make sure to go visit places that have different lights so you can see what you like. You will find that people have success with EVERY kind of lighting and brand possible. In the end, do your research and even make phone calls to distributers and retailers to get their views and experiences with the lighting you are considering. PM me if you would like more information on my lights.

okay thank you. another idea I had was to use a combination of metal halids and then supplement blues with LEDs. on that note of the radions. do you guys have the new generation of them and how do you like them You mean like these?? www.reefbrite.com/reefbrite-halide-hybrid/

Your best bet is NOT to ask distributors and stores about the fixture as they will tell you anything to get you to buy. Go into the stores and distributors and find the fixtures you are interested in and then research the crap out of the fixtures you like. As I said earlier in this post I listened to one distributor tell us how great a certain manufacturer was and then three weeks later six of the nine fixtures were either broken with lights completely out or leds flashing etc. We were there last weekend and Four out of the nine were still out and another was replaced with another model fixture.

Exactly my thoughts..........with the internet you can get much better feedback than from the guy who wants to sell you something. If he talks down his own product, he's an idiot. Of course his product is the best and will make sure you believe him and buy from him.

When researching my lights and making my choices many retailers were very up front and honest with me. Especially about weather a light would be good for sps growth. Many retailers sell multiple lights and are more then willing to explain the differences and pro's and con's. Take frag freaks as an example they sell reef breeders and kessil lighting, more times then not your gonna spend more on kessil's if you have to buy multiple lights. They still highly recommend reef breeders over the kessil's. They use them their selves and have had success with them. Now manufacturers, that's probably a different story all together. They only sell there lights so of course there's will always be the best no matter the situation. Listen to people that have the different lights you want from different brands. Good or bad and weight your options. As stated before do your research everywhere. Google it, ask about it and go visit places that have the lights you like. Ultimately it's up to you and your preferences. Because there's always gonna be a ton of haters and lovers of all. But it's most likely the hardest thing you'll have to choose in this process.

I still say call the retailers and distributers as part of the process. Example: When researching the Pac sun fixture that I wanted to purchase, the distributer talked me out of the more expensive fixture and said it was overkill for my tank, he recommended a less expensive fixture, ime it was a very important part of the process.
