Yeah I read a great article on it yesterday. They want people to track and photograph all the off spring of the png lightning maroons to determine the gene type. I know it's crazy expensive but you should really get another lightning. They have ones on the blue zoo auctions I think that ate cheaper because they have the genes but not the markings. If I remember it all correctly lol

The only downside to pairing and breeding to another lighting maroon is the direct inbreeding unless your lucky enough and have the money to afford another wild caught one.

Yeah well you can use any wild maroon actually now that I think of it. I think the percentage of lightnings you get is just smaller?

Correct me if I'm wrong but Soren got his from the blue zoo aquatics eBay auction of the f1 offspring from Matt pederson's original png lightning female that he bought from blue zoo and paired with a png white stripe after the original male lightning maroon clown died. So technically, all of sea and reefs clowns as far as I've ever read are direct descendants from the one original wild caught female lighting maroon that survived.

lol you both have some correct info....
the first lightning died in 2008 in germany the second one ever caught is the one matt has, there are no more and even if there are more in the wild we will never be able to get one, they closed wild collection from png. this is the reason it is important the png title stays with the fish, once it is crossed with a non png fish it is gone and just another "designer clownfish" originally he paired the small male lightning with a png female, the female died when they both got brook the small lightning changed to a female and he paired it with a png male. then after a bunch more problems he was finally able to raise the fry....
by breeding it with another lightning it may have more lightning type but at what cost... if I breed it with another lightning from soren its like breeding a brother and sister if I breed it with a lightning from matt it is like breeding it with its aunt/uncle... I am pretty sure I will be pairing it with one of sorens morse code maroons they are f1 png maroons with no relation to the lightning maroon. this will make stronger genes and a pure png fish
