I was hoping that I could find a reefer in Maine that would be interested in taking some of our broods. We are raising one now and daddy just had babies this morning. I can see us raising one out of three broods with the resources we have. If anyone is interested or knows anyone who might be interested please let us know. It is hard to let them die. I know if we can't find someone to take some, we will end up trying to raise them all. This brood is in the Kresel and doing well.
We had a brine shrimp mishap and all three of our new cultures didn't hatch. I'm suspecting the junk eggs we got from the box pet store were real old. Could have been the decap but I've done that a lot lately without issues. We have some 1 and 2 day old and our new hatchings should be done tonight so we should be okay but we need some wiggle room and multiple broods at once isn't something we are ready for.
Thanks, Dave

At this point there has been some die off and the horses are not fit for travel. There are only a dozen or so that are eating really well. I think a several hour car ride might be the end for them. Unfortunately a one gallon bowl with a DIY sponge filter isn't handling a brood this size even with 4 water changes a day.
I'd like to setup something for the next batch though. At this point it will likely be in two weeks, he will pop right when I am trying to sleep in a bit. lol.
I would also be willing to setup a list of folks willing to try and that would give people a chance to research, setup a system and get it going. I know we were scrambling to get things together the day he gave birth the first time. The babies lived in a butter dish until we could go buy a drum style fish bowl and setup a kressel later that day. We were playing with brine luckily so we had food.
So let me know if you are interested and I will setup a list. I can then contact the next person on the list a few days before he goes to setup a time and place to meet. I have a new system that I'll be setting up that should help the survival rate so we could meet anytime after they are born, until then the best bet is to meet on Day 1 if possible.
Thanks! Dave

I want some xenia, gsp, some flowy color.

Here is a set up I have been using for my fry. The vase is a square, tall one I got from Walmart. I set it up next to the main tank with an overflow tube going from the display tank to the nursery. Water is drawn out of the nursery(vase) through a large air stone and deposited in the sump. The water level in the nursery is maintained level with the display tank by the overflow tube. This allows the fry to benefit from constant water replacement. The fry won't get sucked out through the stone and positive flow from the main tank keeps them from getting back to the display tank. When vacuuming out waste, the water level is also maintained. A charged air stone is also placed in the nursery for circulation. Don't over do the kreisel effect. remember, S. Erectus will start to hitch in 24 to 48 hours. Best of luck Scott Attachments:

Hey Rob and Jess! How you guys been!?
I completely forgot about this thread! We have raised two batches and have let the rest of the broods get consumed by the system. At this point we have 8 at 4 inches in our main tank that are 5-6 months old. Then another 15 at 2.5-3 inches in a grow-out system. We haven't had any losses in ages and our process seems to be working really well.
Unfortunately Leonard(Daddy) has some gas bubbles on his tail and we have moved him to a nursery tank. That poor guy gave birth every two weeks for 8 months. His last brood was underdeveloped and that is when we noticed the gas bubbles forming. We are treating him and it seems to be getting better. So long story short, it will be a bit before we have Fry again. Of course the babies are now big enough to have babies so it might not be that long...

I will make a short list of people fairly close by. Might even be able to split batches if we can setup the exchange. He was having like 400 per batch before he got ill. Where are you located.
