I'm having a friend get it for me in western bay, in downeast Maine. I did some tests on it at and it looks pretty good. I might bump up the salinity a bit but I think it's fine otherwise. If I start having problems I'll switch back, but I think I'll give it a shot

Was reading recently that the New England Aquarium in Boston gets their water from right in the harbor. They of course have some amazing filtration.

A teacher I work with set up a tank in his classroom and has been using water straight from the ocean in York. The guy doesn't do any treating of the water and he doesn't skim, tank looks great.

Just a quick update- I've been using the natural seawater for almost a month now and my corals all look great. Even my finicky duncans have opened back up again and my hair algae problem has all but disappeared. Not sure what the difference is, because I tested all my parameters and they are the same, but I'll take it! haha

... Not sure what the difference is, because I tested all my parameters and they are the same, but I'll take it! haha It's always something you don't have a test for. My main concern with natural seawater would be pollution and nutrient levels both of which could vary day to day. You might have great luck for months or even years and then...

there was an article in the June issue of TFH about the NEA. I'll dig it out but it sounded like they get their water from the harbor. Perhaps they don't use it for all of the tanks.
Just read it again. They use Boston Bay water for all marine tanks. It goes through 4 stages of filtration. Maybe they switched when the aquarium was over hauled last year.
