I have been looking at used equipment on a few different sites and ppl are crazy!!
one person has 2year old mp10's he is trying to sell for $200 each lmao these cost $235 each new another has mp40 for $275 they are $285 new then I see a sc 50g setup these cost $500-$550 new he is asking $600 used for a couple years.... reefkeeper level 3 (3-4 years old) he is asking $300 they are $285 new...
I really dont get how ppl ask more than a product cost new, imo- these are the reefers trying to rip off new-b reefers and ppl should stay away from them
before you buy something used do some research, reed reviews.... especially with used pumps the mp pumps need bushings replaced frequently, even 1/2 the pump needs to be replaced every couple years...

+1 to that I found a chiller on craigslist for 10$ less then brand new price and messaged the guy and told him straight up "these may of been more expensive when you bought it but they're on Amazon for this price now, would you come down on the price?" No sorry this is the price I'm asking at this time! I wanted to post an ad to the Amazon price so people knew the brand new price. Ridiculous!

No prices! I hate it when sites make it nearly impossible to find the price.

Some things just hold their value insanely well one of those items are Vortech Pumps and rarely do you save enough to justify buying used. The Reef keeper and Neptune apex hold value as well but you can get great bargains if they are missing something. I got a Apex Jr and 8 plug power strip shipped for $85 because it lacked a temp probe.

these are electronics kept in damp environments... would you pay full price for a 2 year old ipod that was kept on the bathroom counter for a year or two? cant say I would...
vortec pumps need way to much maintenance to justify paying more than 1/2 new cost if even that, depending on age and an old reefkeeper for more than it cost new?
an apex missing a probe for $85 is a good deal. I see rkl going for $75 used, but a new powerbar cost around $80. so at around $115 for a new rkl you have to ask yourself is the warranty worth it to you.

What gets me is people who want to sell their entire setups for like $3000-$4000 when there's not anything special about any of it. And then no body wants to sell things separately. Seems like a lot of people don't understand how fast aquariums and aquarium equipment depreciates in value.

its a glass box full of electronics that by the time it is on the market it is outdated or someone makes a comparable item for 1/4 the price....
dont get me wrong if someone buys something new and and it is barley used or has sat in a box it shouldnt lose much value. but a water pump that has been used for a couple years should not be even close to full price..

Some days I read this group and begin ROTFLMAO. When you got into the hobby you didn't walk into a pet store and just have to have that item ? Some people just have to have the latest greatest and go out and buy full retail plus for items. They don't realize the depreciation of what they bought and then get embarrassed or head strong about what they want for the item ( when reselling ) not researching what the item is worth or what it is currently selling for on the news groups. As hobbyist we get experience and learn how to get items cheaper and or how to buy used items. The sad part about the above is someone new on the groups will buy that item at or close to the asking price. As for electronics that is a pretty broad statement Light fixtures, LED's are the first new lighting item or source to come along in over 10 years and the battle rolls on about what is better so obsolescents isn't in play. Condition that is up to the buyer to decide, I bought a light fixture for my sons tank that was 5 years old and looks brand new, I have been using it for two years and no issues. Controllers same thing, I run Aquatronica controllers on my tank, I have the original Neptune aqua controller on my sons tank and there is nothing that the Aquatronica can do that the Neptune can not do. The Neptune is 12 years older then the Aquatronica. This is the same as the Reef angel my Aquatronica can do everything the reef angel can do and maybe a little bit more. Pumps same thing as all above, wire wound coil driving a magnet/ impeller. The only change in twenty plus years is using DC to be able to control the pump. All my equipment on my current tank and the new build is used. Like I love to say been there done that.

All my equipment on my current tank and the new build is used. Like I love to say been there done that. There's nothing wrong with using used electronic of any kind if they're in good condition and priced accordingly. Idk about anyone else but for me it depends on the life expectancy of the item. If selling a 3 year old heater with a 4-5 year life expectancy it's not worth more then half the current retail price imho if it's 2 months old that different. If buying/selling a led, if taken care of and has little signs of rust and ware then I'd say 75% of retail is reasonable. Thinking your gonna get what you paid or MORE then you paid retail after you've had it for any amount of time is just plain ludicrous. I've seen people on different threads and this one selling brand new items they bought and then figured out they didn't need or want for less then they paid and that's brand new. There's absolutely nothing wrong with buying used items and nobody said there was but they should be priced accordingly especially from any type of moderately experienced reefer or fish keeper should know better.

Lol ty but I wouldn't buy a mp series for half price. I'm good with buying products from company's that make no effort to bring affordable products to the industry. I can buy a vdm and run my wp's off it with just as much control;)

"especially from any type of moderately experienced reefer or fish keeper should know better" That is the point I was making most item you see outrageously price is from new inexperienced hobbyist who walked into a pet store and paid way too much for the item to begin with.
