Anyone been to Aqua corals in Fairfield ? I'm considering heading up there but it's quite a drive and want to know if it's actually worth it!

Definitely worth it. Beautiful place, penny is very knowledgeable, even if she does insist on using only her practices.

...even if she does insist on using only her practices. This is her problem. She insists that her one size fits all. I haven't been in awhile but my impression is that she is higher priced on livestock than most. That being said, what she does (mostly soft corals, mostly brown she does well.

The store is well organized, and the display tanks are beautiful. Like Lance said, mostly softies and mostly brown, but she has a fairly new stony coral system, and has SPS and LPS in stock currently. Also has harlequin shrimp in stock.

Lance pretty well hit the nail on the head. If your looking for healthy beginner corals than she's got them and so does anyone else. I haven't been there in quite some time and won't ever go back but overall it's a decent store to go look around if your in the area. That said anything you'd find there you can definitely find cheaper elsewhere with the same quality. Were you looking for any particular coral or fish from there or just thinking about going to look? There's quite a few of us on here that have had our own different issues with aquacorals over the years but It's always best to go and form your own opinions.

you are going to get allot of mixed reviews on this store. but like every lfs or person selling corals you should go there to make up your own mind. (I was always told if you cant say anything nice... so

I also have been wanting to make the trip but haven't yet. 1 upside I can say is she takes certain corals in on trade that most places won't even take for free! So that's a plus. Pulsating xenia, actually any type of xenia, Kenya trees the ones that grow like weeds and gsp like I said a lot of people can't give this stuff away but she'll take it in on trade. Probably won't give a whole bunch for it but if you have a bunch you could walk out with a couple nice pieces possibly?

I was always told if you cant say anything nice... so I grew up in the south where I was always told if you can't say anything nice you say "God bless her/him/them!"...then you finish with something not nice. But seriously, I think Penny's display tanks are impressive. The health of her display fish (at least the last time I was there) indicates she's doing stuff right. I think she's had a Sailfin Tang for well over decade with no signs of head and lateral erosion. And seeing the mature colonies of Leathers and Toadstools is awesome. It's worth a look.

Thanks everyone it was over an hour ride so I probably won't make the trip. I spend most of my time in gorham so I have easy aquariums right down the road so I'll probably just stick to them. I appreciate all the honest responses though!

Like someone said above. If you are looking for anything particular just post on here, you will probably find it $20-$30 cheaper than you will up there....

I got into the hobby there. The displays are nice she usually has a good selection of healthy fish and is very knowledgeable about her methods. I have difficulty stopping in do to her store hours. She does take things in trade be sure to call ahead of time to see if she's taking what you have.

I don't buy anything there mainly because of price, however, it's worth the stop just to look. She really does have some amazing looking tanks

I made the trip about a month ago after thinking about it for almost a year. I met Penny and her Husband and they are very nice people. I ended up getting there at almost closing time and Penny gave me the grand tour of the store and her ideas of how she thinks things should be done. I enjoyed my visit and I have to say her web site does not do justice to her tanks or her corals. Well worth the trip even if you do not buy or agree with her. I will defiantly be making the trip again. This time I will get there early so as to be able to sit and admire her display tanks.

Her tank buster sales are awesome! I didn't buy anything else. She posts a new 125 gallon Not drilled last sale for $250.
