Has anyone ventured into drilling the sides of one of these yet? I am guessing that if they have a thicker frame they may have switched to tempered glass on all 5 panels. It sucks when the bit touches the tempered glass and not knowing it.

Is there any truth to this? Fairytale?

I don't know this . I did attempt to drill a known tempered tank years ago and as soon as the Bit hit the glass the panel was a goner. I have heard that using a diamond glass hole cutter with no starter bit and pooled with water it can be done.

It looked like he was pushing way too hard, almost like he was trying to break it on purpose. I'm not saying it can be done, but he was pushing way too hard even for regular glass.

I was going to say the same thing but I didn't want to sound like a pessimist.

I do know that the bottom of the tetra tanks are tempered. One way to find out if the sides are is I will have to start drilling.

No the Tetra tanks are not tempered. I believe the 40B and 55 both have tempered bottom panels but the side panels are not.

I was suspicious of the increase in size if the framing but that is good to know.

I've drilled 7 tanks now w/o issue all were deep blue or aqueon...oh there was the Mr. Aqua too. I don't believe any were tempered its not too difficult just spray with water use a wireless drill set the clutch real soft and drill. Also put something inside the tank to protect it from the falling peice of glass.
