Does anyone have any experience with Pan World pumps?
I'm thinking about getting the PH-50PX pump for when I move the sump to the basement.
They get good reviews online, and are reasonably priced.
Thanks

I have been using Pan World pumps for eight years now with no problems. I currently am using a PH-30 and will be using a PH 100 PX for my return from the basement. The PH100 was used for 5 years, it came off my 75 gallon and again no issues. They are not the quietest pumps but they last. The person that designed PAN world pumps supposing worked for Iwaki. IMO it is a pump made by a manufacturer and many companies rebadge then as their own. If you look at Blue line pumps they are exactly the same pump and even the same case color.

Everything I found about them looks good, noise won't be an issue since it will be in the basement.
A guy I work with just bought one for use on his tank with basement sump..........but he won't have it all setup for a few months so I can't feedback from him for a while.

I don't know if you are open to other pumps but I have a Little Giant pump right around the GPH that you are looking for. Would be looking to get rid of it really cheap... Just took it out of an existing system.

Iwaki, and Little giants have been around forever and are proven pumps. Little giants do require a little more maintenance than most pumps as they need to be oiled. Pan world, blue line, and coralife pumps ( all the same manufacture ) have also been around for years. I been reading on some groups of a few of the pan world pumps having bearings fail. I have been using two Pan world pumps for over ten years with no issues. Reefflo pumps are another pump I have been reading a lot about where bearings are failing. Reefflo now sells the bearings to the public so when they fail you can replace them. In the past I have used Iwaki, panworld, and little Giant pumps and they all make a whirling hum type of noise new out of the box.
On a side note, I notice that one of the off brand DC pumps labeled as a no name DCM12000 which looks identical to the Jebao DC pump is using a metal snap ring to hold the impeller to the shaft. I am hoping that this snap ring is made of high grade stainless or titanium but it does not look like either.

If you use true union ball valves on the pan world (or any external) and clean the impeller every 3 months it should stay relatively quiet. Junk=friction=noise
You could also look into the new Waveline DC12,000. Its not the cheapest but I bet after a couple years of use you would have more money in your pocket due to the savings on electricity. We have 4 of them in use at Easy Aquariums and are very impressed with their power and lack of noise. Note we have them sitting on 1.5" soundboard, 1.5" vinyl in and 1" silicone out.

It looks like the Blueline and the Panworld pumps are the same exact company, is that true?
Both the company's websites say that the owner used to be the lead engineer for Iwaki, so it sounds like they are the same.

My last tank I had two brand new Iwaki pumps in the stand, mwd-30rlt and a wmd-40rlt. These were both purchased from Iwaki direct, I picked up from their plant in Massachusetts, they put on their QC line, tested for operation and noise and boxed back up for me. The bad was the tank was in my living room so the noise was more pronounced even after insulation the stand with pink foam board and put the pumps on the foam board. I am not saying they were noisy but they had the typical hum and whine of an AC electric motor. The tank I have now I have two of the Pan worlds on it and they have the same noise, not bad but you can here the hum / whine of the motor. These also were brand new and had the hum / whirl straight out of the box. The tank Is in my kitchen, I am in the living room and I can hear the hum. The DC pumps are ten fold quieter.

Steve,
Pan World, Blue line, and Coralife pumps are all rebadged pumps from the same factory.

A friend of mine texted me this afternoon that he has a 1 year old Blueline 40HD if I wanted it, it's the same pump as the Pan World 100px or the Iwaki 40...........so I'm going to grab it.

It could possibly be a touch undersized depending on how head pressure pans out. Just an fyi the 40hd uses 3/4" where the next pump size up uses 1".
