I used one but forgot what one it was. Anyway, I still cycled, just in half the time.

I'm using micro bacter7 right now. I used almost exclusively dry sand and rock. I'll update people on the time frame of cycle.

I've used Tetra Safe Start in my freshwater tanks with no issues. Fenner's crew recommend Bio-Spira if you can find it.

So.....I won't recommend at least dr Tim's, I used it in my 110 upgrade because I had to use most of the equiptment from my old tank in the new one and I lost everything except 1 clown, some mushrooms, cleaner shrimp. Ended up loosing 2 clowns, 2 PJ Cardnals, brittle star, orange Lemmon peel angel, 2 frog spawn, 2 chalices, and some other assorted corals I had, not sure that me RBTA is gonna make it either she shriveled up and is hiding in a hole in a rock. I don't know for sure if it was dr Tim's that caused it, but it definatly didn't cycle as I expected with it, unfortinatly I found out to late

I believe when you use Dr Tim's your only suppose to put one fish in the tank till after you cycle it? Did you use all your same live rock?

I've used these both with success. I actually still put the salt water one in once and awhile.especially when I add new rock or sand. But have heard good things about the Dr Tim's one and only Attachments:

The only way to really not have a cycle in a new tank that I trust is to start completely with all cured liverock and live sand in a new aquarium. Sorry to hear things didn't go well for ya. The best way to experiment though it to actually experiment.

I am sad to hear that you had problems. It seems like there have been a few people this has happened too. I hope other people learn from this experience.
I think it is a good idea to test the ammonia levels in the tank daily or even twice daily if you have too. That way if you see the Ammonia levels increasing to dangerous levels you can easily do water exchanges, even in you have to do 30% water exchanges daily it is still better than losing so much money in fish and corals.

I just cycled again from adding a new piece of liverock. Very discouraging and frustrating
